WORLD
POPULATION DAY
The
Department of Sociology and Social Work observed the World Population Day on
11.07.2016.According to census 2011, the population of India is 1.21 billion
and it is expected to increase beyond the population level of China. The high
population of India has a major impact on the economic and social life our
country. India is a place where women are always considered as secondary
citizens. Indians mostly prefer sons rather than daughters due to various
social and psychological reasons. The sex ratio our country is quite alarming
which is 940 females for 1000 males.
The
United Nations Organization declared the theme for this year as ‘Investing in
teenage girls’ to make them agents of positive change for the future. Education
provided to a girl would enhance the entire generation of that girl. Fatima
College – a pioneer in providing education to girls conducted various
programmes on account of World Population Day.
The
Department of Sociology and Social Work organized a street theatre emphasizing
the evils of high population inside the campus where the students and faculty
members of all other departments witnessed the programme .At the end of the
programme a mini quiz programme on “Population of India” was conducted and the
