Role of Budding Sociologist in Creating Responsible Citizens - II

The Department of Sociology and Social work has initiated a new programme called “Creating Responsible Citizens”. The purpose of this programme is to create awareness among the school students about our Indian constitution and the significance of clean environment. As a part of this programme, the students of our department performed various activities in St.Joseph Higher Secondary School, Madurai on 7^th December 2015.Rev Sr. Esther Mary, Correspondent felicitated the function.   Rev.Sr.Angeline Ramani blessed the students with her gracious presence.

The programme started with the enactment of the Street Theatre portraying the significance of clean environment. This was followed by our traditional folk art Villu Paatu. Villu paatu was a new experience to the school students. In Villu Paatu, our college students sung about our fundamental rights and fundamental duties mentioned in our constitution.

Shadow puppet show was organized which conveyed the evils of deforestation and the need of afforestation. The school students enjoyed the programme well as the message was conveyed through puppets. This is the unique learning experience for Fatimites also as they made performance for the well organized group of school students. The programme came to an end with vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Violet Rani, St.Joseph Higher Secondary School, Madurai .
